Abdul Majeed Shoman Football Championship Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Arab Bank has recently concluded the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman Annual Football Championship which was held under the patronage of Abdul Majeed, the grandson, and Dina and Muna Shoman, granddaughters of the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman. The Abdul Majeed Shoman Football Championship marked its 25th anniversary this year. It was launched in 1987 under the constant patronage of the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman.
The final match witnessed a large number of employee participants from various branches of the Bank across the Kingdom along with their families and friends. The Central Operations Unit (A) team won the Abdul Majeed Shoman Championship trophy after defeating the Internal Audit team in the final match three goals to two in a penalty kick shootout after the game ended in a tie with one goal each during regulation time.
Mr. Abdul Majeed Shoman, Manager/Corporate & Investment Banking at Arab Bank, said in his opening speech: “Today we mark 25 years of this championship which has been supported by the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman since its launch in 1987. He used to personally get involved in each championship and attend the games as part of his strong belief that these activities leave a positive impact on the Arab Bank family which he cared for greatly. This championship reflects the Bank’s commitment to engage employees in different sporting and volunteering activities in order to foster team spirit in addition to strengthening relationships amongst them.” Mr. Shoman further added: “We are proud to continue realizing the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman’s vision, stemming from the foundations that were put in place for Arab Bank’s journey of success by the founder, the Late Abdel Hameed Shoman.”
Mr. Marwan Riyal, Executive Vice President of Human Resources at the Bank said during the opening ceremony: “Year after year we have gathered for this championship as part of our goal to create a community amongst employees and engage them in events and activities organized by the Bank.” Mr. Riyal also added: “After 25 years, the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman tournament has become a symbolic sporting activity at Arab Bank, representing our pride in our institution.”
At the end of the match, Mr. Abdul Majeed Shoman awarded medals and trophies to both teams, as well as certificates and trophies honoring players that have taken part in the tournament for over 20 years. These longstanding players were also honored for playing an important role in realizing the Late Abdul Majeed Shoman’s vision for the championship that bears his name.
